What I Look for on Your Statement
Processing statements are written to be hard to read. These are the lines I check first.
Your effective rate
Total fees divided by total sales. It's usually higher than the rate you were quoted, and it's the only number that tells you what you really pay.
Markup over interchange
The card brands set the base cost. Everything above it is your processor's markup, and that's where the room to save is.
Monthly and junk fees
Statement fees, PCI fees, monthly minimums, and line items with vague names that add up quietly every month.
Rate creep
Rates that went up after you signed. Comparing a recent statement to an older one often shows it.
Equipment and software
Terminal leases and monthly POS software fees that may cost more than the equipment is worth.
Your options
Whether a cash discount program, a better rate, or new equipment makes sense for your business — or whether you're already in good shape.

What should I upload?
Your most recent full month's processing statement, every page. If you pay a separate POS company like Toast or Clover, include that invoice too. A PDF from your processor's portal is best, but clear phone photos work.
Where do I find my processing statement?
Most processors email it monthly or post it in their online merchant portal under statements or reports. If you can't find it, call me and I'll walk you through it.
Is it safe to send my statement?
Your statement goes to me, and I use it only to prepare your analysis. A processing statement doesn't contain your customers' card numbers, and you can black out your bank account numbers before uploading.
